First Philippine Game Festival Summit for Professionals

UP Diliman NisMEd Auditorium ♥ September 18, 2010

Yesterday, I was happy enough to drag Andrew to the first Summit for Professionals (which is also open to students by the way) hosted by the Game Developers Association of the Philippines (GDAP). It was part of the First Philippine Game Festival week hosted by University of the Philippines Diliman campus made possible by the Youth for IT. Too bad, we didn’t get to see what was in store for the week, however we made sure that the summit was worth it. I was diligent enough to take down notes on what the speakers were presenting. Plus, I took the photos of Em Dangla’s facebook album. Thanks Em! :)

The speakers for the Summit included (from left to right): Sean Hammon (the guy behind Sqwishland from Fun Guy Studios), Ali Kojori (one of the brains behind games like Grand Theft Auto from Turnout Ventures), David Tene (the author of Game Development Industry), and Allan Simonsen (the cofounder and tecnical director of Boom Zap Entertainment).

Luna Cruz (former Senior Game Designer/Producer of Anino Games, now the lead for Boom Zap Entertainment) also gave her take on Game Design perspective along with Sean, Norman Lee’s pushing for the ChEd memoradum on a course that caters to aspiring artists, designers and developers who is also the same guy that’s responsible for De La Salle’s College of St. Benilde for having a course in Game Design and Development :)

The ending messages that I took note of.

“Just go for it” -Sean Hammon

“Making a game is like running a marathon.. on your knees. It’s painful and hard but {forgot} worth it.” (Ali Kojori)

“If it’s your heart that tells you, do it” -David Tene

“Find a job you love and you’ll never work a day in your life.” -the Conficious quote that Allen Simonsen loves.

The speakers with the International Game Developers Association – Manila Chapter.

OK. I take it back. I’m too lazy to type anything right now. Haha. Plus I have homework. If you want to be active or is currently an aspiring game developer, join the IGDA Manila group on facebook and go to the monthly meet ups. They hold talks and it’s the people in the actual industry. :) That’s all.
