The Twilight of Your Life

About the Book

Twilight is the story of a clumsy teenage girl named Isabella “Bella” Swan who goes to Forks, Washington and live with his father – for the cause of her mother marrying a baseball player. Coming from Pheonix, Bella thinks that there might be some trouble blending in, since Forks is a small town with people who have known each other since forever, the sun doesn’t shine as much as they do, a much smaller population in High School and the trees are greener on this side. Bella became the spotlight upon entering High School attracting nearly all guys in school – including Edward Cullen.

This might sound great and all, being the attention of all guys – even the most mysterious god-like guy in school but there’s one hitch. Edward Cullen is a vampire. As much as Edward tries to stay away from Bella, he can not. Bella’s blood is Edward’s perfect drug with her blood singing to her. And wait there’s more, Edward’s Family – The Cullens are a clan of vampires that have denied themselves of drinking blood from Humans which allows them to have permanent residence in Forks. It all gets crazier when Edward’s ability (reading minds) has no effect on Bella. With the physical attraction, the fascination and the constant resistance of Edward to drinking Bella’s blood — what more can you expect?

The first time I read the book, I could not get pass Chapter 5 although I must admit it was hilarious when Bella fainted to the sight of blood. It made me think of how will she handle being a vampire if she faints at the sight of it. So I gave the book another try and alas! I did finish the book. The book has received extreme criticisms from the audience and I might know why.

If you are the hopeless romantic person, then this book is really great for you. The dialogues, conversations and scenarios of the book will swoon you immensely even to the last page. Stephanie Meyer has manage to create a constant imagery -without being too restricted – to the attraction, resistance, courting and togetherness of the couple. She manage to build up a strong foundation for Edward and Bella’s relationship minus the drama. Plus, what happens to Bella is every girl’s dream; to be invisible, move out, become somebody else that every guy admires and find the perfect guy to sing you lullabies to sleep. And if you add in a childhood lycan friend ready to take you when your vampire boyfriend goes rogue, it’s up for a perfectly put love story. I must say – too perfect.

If you happen to read a ton of love story then you would not be so impress with Twilight. Even though the dialogues are amazing, there is not much conflict in the story. It seemed as if everything happening in the book was for Bella. So maybe, it is in a first perspective but I’ve seen a lot of other characters struggling more than she did. It was as if everything was laid up in front of her. The Lamb-Lion concept is a superb strength in the book but it was not well presented. Bella lived in a world revolving around her that everything she does will happen to turn out good because there are people cleaning up after her, forgiving her or supporting her – even if she did ’save’ her Mom in the end. And I must admit, the story is a bit over rated. Stephanie took a lot of factors from other great novels and placed it in hers. That’s why the scenarios are perfect. It’s the almost ultimate collection of love stories scenes that can lead any hopeless romantic to becoming more hopelessly romantic.

But I do recommend the book, although you might need a re-read in order to be sunk in.

Quotable Quotes

Death shouldn’t be this uncomfortable.

Surely it was a good way to die, in the place of someone else, someone I loved.

I’ll be the first to admit that I have no experience with relationships. But it just seems logical… a man and woman have to be somewhat equal… as in, one of them can’t always be swooping in and saving the other one. They have to save each other equally.

You are my life. You’re the only thing it would hurt me to lose.

Ordinary people seem to make it through the day without so many catastrophes.

Sometimes I wondered if I was seeing the same things through my eyes that the rest of the world was seeing through theirs.

Life isn’t fair.

I told you I’m not going anywhere. Don’t be afraid. As long as it makes you happy, I’ll be here.

Most of the time I tune it all out — it can be very distracting. And then it’s easier to seem normal when I’m not accidentally answering someone’s thoughts rather than their words.

Side Notes

When Stephanie decided to write the first chapter (13), she did not have the name Edward or Bella.

The idea for the book came to author Stephenie Meyer in a dream. She even remembers the exact day of the dream: June 2, 2003.

Like Bella before she moved to Forks, Washington, Meyer also grew up in Phoenix, Arizona.

More than 100 Twilight fans each day make trips to the real small town of Forks, Washington. A restaurant called Sully’s Drive-In even offers a Bella Burger on its menu, and the burger comes with a special side item: A pair of fake plastic vampire teeth!

I am very curious about all the hype from grown woman for twilight. I have toyed with the notion of seeing the movie but will probably wait for pay-per-view. I enjoyed your review.
